How to Download Instagram Reels on iPhone (2026 Guide)
By the IGLink team ·
Saving a reel to an iPhone sounds simple, but iOS hides downloaded files in a place many people never open. This guide walks you through the full process, from copying the link to seeing the video in your Photos app.
What you need
- An iPhone running iOS 15 or newer (older versions work, but the steps differ a little)
- Safari, Chrome or any browser
- The link to a public reel
Step-by-step: save a reel to your iPhone
- Open Instagram and find the reel.
- Tap the paper-plane Share icon, then tap Copy link.
- Open Safari and go to the IGLink Reels Downloader.
- Tap the input box, tap Paste, then tap Download.
- When the preview appears, tap Download MP4. Safari asks "Do you want to download…?" Tap Download.
- Tap the blue arrow in the address bar, then the file, then the share icon and choose Save Video.
The reel is now in your Photos app, under Recents.
Where did my download go?
Safari saves files to Files › On My iPhone › Downloads (or iCloud Drive › Downloads). If you can't find it, open the Files app and search for "mp4".
Common iPhone problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Video opens in a new tab instead of downloading | Old iOS version | Long-press the button and pick "Download Linked File" |
| "Save Video" is missing | The file is still in Files | Open it in Files, tap Share, then Save Video |
| No sound | Silent mode or the reel's music was removed | Flip the ring/silent switch, or check the reel on Instagram |
| Error "post not found" | Private or deleted reel | Only public reels can be saved |
Tips for better results
- Copy the link from inside the app, not from a screenshot.
- Use Wi-Fi for long reels, files can be 30–80 MB.
- Credit the creator if you repost anything, and ask first.
